Overview

JiaMo Lab delivers an authentic slice of Chinese street food right in the heart of Rome. Nestled on Via Bergamo, this compact eatery specializes in traditional jiamo sandwiches, slow-cooked meats, and hand-crafted dumplings, making it a must-visit for lovers of genuine Chinese flavors with a modern twist.

The star of their menu is undoubtedly the jiamo, a slow-braised meat sandwich featuring either pork or beef. The bun itself deserves special praise—it’s skillfully prepared using a traditional technique that creates a texture reminiscent of a savory croissant. This results in a delicate balance of bittersweet flavors and contrasting textures: a crispy outer crust with a tender, fluffy interior. The fillings are richly seasoned, delivering a satisfying, hearty bite that leaves a lasting impression. Alongside these, dishes like Peking duck, pan-seared pork and cabbage dumplings, and shrimp noodles showcase the kitchen's range and dedication to quality.

Despite the small space—with only a handful of tables—the atmosphere at JiaMo Lab is vibrant and inviting. The limited seating encourages a quick, efficient service while fostering an intimate, street-style dining experience. This cozy setting primarily appeals to those looking for a flavorful, casual meal, whether dining in or picking up on the go. It's clear that JiaMo Lab caters well to locals and visitors who appreciate authenticity without pretense.

Customers consistently applaud the friendly, attentive staff who make every visit enjoyable. While peak times often bring a line, the buzz only adds to the anticipation of sampling some of the best Chinese street food in Rome. The menu is perfectly curated to highlight quality over quantity, ensuring every dish—from the baozi to the Chinese burger—is crafted with care and integrity.

In essence, JiaMo Lab is a compact culinary gem where traditional Chinese techniques meet Roman charm. It’s ideal for anyone seeking genuine, richly flavored dishes served in a warm, approachable environment. Whether you’re in the mood for a hearty jiamo or expertly made dumplings, this spot promises a memorable and satisfying experience.

The pork jiamo here is delicious and affordable. I also ordered the roast duck, but I found it just average—it wasn’t the kind that’s served hot and fresh from the oven. The staff was very friendly. This restaurant is quite small, with only four tables for dine-in, so most customers come to pick up their orders.

I loved everything about this tiny restaurant! The food is absolutely delicious - I had some of the best beef noodles of my life, the guys are super nice and the shop is so small that it gets crowded every time, but this makes a great atmosphere (at least for me). If you choose to eat at the restaurant and are lucky enough to get one of the few chairs available, you'll experience a quick and perfectly timed service!

This tiny Chinese street food lab is renowned for its slow-cooked meat sandwich called Jiamo. The standout feature is the bun, crafted through a traditional method that yields a flavor similar to a savory croissant, with crispy strips on top. It’s really delicious, with its contrast in both flavors (bittersweet bun and a highly seasoned filling) and textures (crunchy exterior and a soft interior). Both the pork and beef versions are highly recommended. Their dumplings are no joke either: their shrimp dumplings are among the best I've ever had. The meat ones are good enough. The place is quite small and there’s often a line right from opening, so brace yourself with a bit of patience if you choose to go there. But be sure that it won't disappoint you. Prices are reasonable: Jiamo, dumplings, and a Coke cost about €14 per person.

Street food Chinese restaurant. The specialty is the Chinese burger from X’ian. A pasta that is compacted and then fried like a burger and then filed with juicy meat. We tried it (pork) together with raviolis and two plates of vegetables. The quality/price ratio is very good. For a bit more than 20€ we got a full meal with good homemade food. The raviolis where also very good. The best ones that we tried in Rome. The service is friendly which is worth being said as this was quite rare during our whole stay this week in Rome. Everytime we tried to eat there, it was the rush in the restaurant. Big crowd. If you intend to eat while being seated in, either be patient or lucky . Only four tables inside. Quality of ingredients : 5* Quality of taste: 4* Ambiance: 4* Service: 5* Quality/price ratio: 5*

It's a small, popular shop with quite a crowd. The flavor is decent. the outer crust is crispy, and there's a lot of meat. it can get a bit greasy.
